Another "tii" on Ebay

No doubt this is a beautiful car and worth every penny... BUT a tii with dual carbs and a air intake hole? I couldn't see if it has a clock?

I would think if I'm spending that much for a "tii", I'd make sure everything shows it as a tii...

Just my opinion... Not meant to stir a debate, but with all the tii's for sale it's hard to tell if there are signs that say they are not. You would think the seller would mention the changes rather than leaving it open to speculation.

EDIT: It does mention in the appraisal letter that the fuel injection was removed for the dual carbs.. It goes on to say that this modification "did not add or subtract from vehicle value". This I would debate.

Snorkel so the car might have been front ended. No A/C, no sunroof, extensive rust repairs, but what else lurks underneath? No original fuel injection components, and the 'period correct' interior looks like a cheesy '80's retrofit.....all for an $8K opening bid.....call me cranky, but I'll pass. I liked David in PA's '02 a whole lot more......just my .02 cents.

I sent him this email:

There is no doubt that this is a very very nice car, It is however no longer a Tii as it does not have the injection system which is the primary differance between a Tii and non Tii.

I am giving him the benifit of the doubt that it was ever a Tii.

I am sure at best he'll ignore it at worst I'll get an angry reply. He is smoking something.

Shoulda left it Golf, IMO.

This is one of those late 1980s custom re-dos where the owner's opinion takes precedence over originality.

Nice, then, but oh-so-incorrect now.

Kind of a bummer.

He responds!

Item: BMW : 2002 (150039297622)

This message was sent while the listing was active.

carcoll12 is the seller.

Well, my understanding is that the Weber conversion was very common. Supposedly it runs better, is easier to maintain and is quicker. Everything else is tii. Its quick and corners great.

Meaning I am being played with or are you being sarcastic? I am newly coming back to 2002s so I don't know him.

I was trying to explain why there were no bids.

Here is my response to him:

I am afraid you have been misinformed. Many were converted because the injection system needed repair and it is difficult if you are unfamiliar to adjust but in no way does it produce more power just by going to the carbs. The Ti was carbed using dual Solex and the injected Tii was an upgrade.

Further originality is better in this arena and this mod does in no way enhance the value of your otherwise very nice car. I am in no way trying to be unkind, I am only trying to give you information.

yeah, i would guess that matt mcginn has done some work on this car...not the restoration, but maybe general service. i'd trust his opinion of this car as detailed in the letter. the seller is smart to have used matt as an appraiser since most of us hardcore enthusiasts know and trust him. you can check out matt's website at: http://www.sports-car-restoration.com/

if you could get that car for less than the buy it now price, you'd definitely have a heck of an 02. true, it's not a real tii anymore, but that can always be fixed. sure beats the $20k that nice examples are starting to fetch now.

i'll stick with my $1500 ti(-i) project for now though.

It is a very very nice car and I understand completely how we become attached to our cars.

I recently sold my pristine, tastefully modded 90 325ic which was in my Family for it's entire life (Bought Aug 90 by my Mom at Beverly Hills BMW)

It had 59k original miles was in as close to perfect unrestored condition as is possible, during the two years I had it I changed every wear item including all brakes, (e32 750 master cyl mod)ss brake lines, hoses, radiator, waterpump etc.

Everyone on r3v said I was insane thinking I would get 9k but I did and in retrospect the way the auction went I think I could have gotten more had the buy it now been higher.

I just think this car would be worth more if it were it's original color and had the injection. I hope it goes above the buy it now and he gets every penny he feels the car is worth. I am sure he has much more than 8k into it's restoration.
