EDIS Install

Is it as easy as pulling the Ford parts off the Ford vehicle and bolting them on the 2002 in a similar fashon? I've read up on what EDIS is, how it works, problems, concerns, etc. I've purchased all the parts new from a Ford dealer, and I've done my JB Welding the trigger wheel to a crank pulley. Now for the hard part... Is it really as easy/hard as just putting the system together as it was on the Ford? Hoping to get this done sometime this weekend or next week depending on tomorrow & Sunday's work/play schedule.

TIA,

Yea I think it's that easy. However you still have to have the Megasquirt to modulate the signal in order to get ignition advance. If you don't have your MS yet, it should default to 10 deg BTDC if you have the ring and sensor set up right.

So it's probably not a good idea to set it up then?? The default will make my car run like doo-doo right? No advance, retard... whatnot

John/Others:

MS is the eventual goal but in the meantime is there anything else I can use to control spark that won't cost me an arm & a leg? Or should I stick with a distributor till I'm ready? I wanted to do the Megasquirt/Spark install in steps - Spark only on my DD, then play around with fuel only on my other car, then finally combine the two once they are mastered on the final motor.

EDIS and fuel, you really don't need the MS-II. A kit for the MS-I is $135.00, fully assembled and tested is $240.

Buy the kit, start with spark only and then add EFI when you have the time.

what's MS-II for then? I thought that II gave you more options for tuning, relay boards, better engine management, etc. The first round of this nonsense will be on a NA ITB motor. I just thought that "bigger is better" and to just get the II?? am i wrong?

Thanks

I bought the MS II v3 for a number of reasons. First of all, its the latest and greatest ;). Second of all it gives 12x12 fuel and spark tables instead of 8x8. I also have a barometric pressure corrector as well as a MAP sensor so hopefully I can drive into the mountains without any problems. For me, its go big or go home.

From what I can tell about your project, your going really big.

I'm VERY interested in your barometric pressure corrector! Do you have a project blog? Maybe I should have looked before I ask... I don't want to say Im going big... maybe just spending big... ;')

It's the same as you mentioned - go big or go home! Why get MS-I when there's IIv3 right? I'm going to just bite the bullet and do the IIv3. I want to have some pretty neat features and the IIv3 allows for an almost infinate amount of possibilities with the relay boards, etc. I've been "lurking" on the MS forum for a while - it's easy to post random crap here... you get people willing to answer anything... over there you really gotta know what's up or they'll tear you apart!

results (I did the conversion ~3 years ago). I'm putting a MS-II on my M20 conversion. The 8x8 tables in MS-I are really enough to tune your car, I went with the MS-II because of the slightly greater flexibility it offers, and I wasn't that bothered by the difference in price.

Because MS-I is more mature, the code for it is more advanced right now that what is available for MS-II and it will nicely do everything you need. If your budget is tight, go MS-I and put the extra into a WB-O2 probe and electronics. I'm also a big fan of the relay board, it does make your wiring much cleaner.

Without sounding too cocky money isn't a factor here. I don't care what it costs and the price difference between MS-I & MS-II aren't really that much either. I'd rather get the latest and greatest and tune it as I go along than stick with MS-I which is rock solid but rather simple and does not have the options of things like relay boards and barometers, etc. Would the best thing be to litterally buy a MS kit or buy the componants seperately and then figure it out somehow?

Thanks for your help... I'm a little dissapointed I can't just run EDIS but I can relax and wait for the MS to put it all together at once...

MS one has 12x12 tables if you upgrade the firmware to the MSnSe it also does barometric correction and a host of other things.

I don't think you can run a MAF off of it.

Look around here,

http://megasquirt.sourceforge.net/extra/

I couldn't find any reason for the MS2 when I started mine and I still can't.
