I did the weber 32/36 install. not sure if that did too much for power

is the next move to upgrade to:

1. Tii exhaust manifold and Ansi(sp?) exhaust system?

2. cam and valve head

3. rebore with new pistons.

thanks

Yeah Ansa exhaust with a tii or any nice flowing header. You can find the floating around used for a nice price. I know tinkidz on here has some exhaust stuff still.

You Could do the header then have a 2 1/4-1/2 exhaust made for a couple hundred bucks too.

Its all about the cam (and displacement of course). The first one being the cheapest and easiest.

I put on a tii manifold and it didnt make that much of a difference. The cam on the other hand is very noticeable. If you really crave more instantaneous power, do what I am doing and go fuel injected with a hotter cam.

1. set dwell with a meter

1a. adjust valves COLD 0.006"

2. set ignition timing with strobe light and tachometer

3. adjust float level and jets

4. install correct heat range spark plugs

5. replace all gas, vacuum hoses and filters

6. repair all weak/broken/loose ignition/charging system wiring/connections

7. repair exhaust leaks

8. repair oil leaks

9. replace oil pump, pump chain, and timing chain, sprockets

10. remove cylinder head - 3-angle valve job and decarbonization

11. ..............

As CD mentioned and a little more... A well tuned 32/36 will provide both good fuel milage and good power. Properly tuned and running 02's are better than you think. IMO exhausts only give you the fast NOISE not the actual go fast.... As mentioned, a cam will help a bunch. a 292 cam with a 32/36 or 38/38 will make a noticable difference.

As a suggestion look at brakes, suspension, SWAYBARS, shocks, springs, bushings, strut bars and tires before you look at motor. If you pull the head to put a cam in you might as well just rebuild your whole motor - it's really not that much more work. If you rebuild your motor you're gonna need the brakes and suspension to handle it.

Look at your car as a balanced system. Everything from the stock exhaust, steering wheel diameter and stock tires and ride height were all designed to be in balance with each other. If you change one little itty-bitty thing... make sure you do it across the board. Cam = ignition, compression, intake, exhaust = suspension, brakes, tires

Just my .02 cents

Power is as Mr Miagi would say "air in air out, air in air out'. maximize the pounds of air and fuel you can get through your engine each second. Squash the air/fuel for efficiency and make sure you burn it. All there is to it.

1 K&N air filter

2 exhaust upgrade

3 match the inlet manifold "into wind" step to the head

4 cam (way fun)

5 3 angle valve grind

6 compression increase

7 ignition upgrade (compression may cause need for increase in spark power)

8 VESPA decal for your rear window

Got to go! My brand new replacement Schrick 292 cam just arrived and I got to fondle it tonight before it goes in the rebuilt head tomorrow.

Way too much fun.

What are you looking to build...something for the track or for the street? If you don't want to spend any money, leave the engine stock cuz the smallest improvment will cost alot and won't be enough..so you'll end up spending more. If for the street I would recommend a 38/38 weber, 292 cam, Tii header or aftermarket header (bavarian auto, ireland, stahl, etc), Tii distributor, pertronix and/or MSD ignition, and possibly a lighter flywheel. That will get you nice performance for the street and the occasional driving school. For the track, the sky's the limit. Bigger cam, higher compression, better breathing and exhaust, lightest flywheel and clutch, etc...that's where you'll get the power.....good luck...
