Rear Sunroof gasket question

Guest

Recommended Posts

Just received a new rubber rear seal for my '76 sunroof. The gasket is approx. 1/8" thick and 3/4" wide. My question is, do these dimensions seem correct? Unfortunately, the previous owner stripped the original gasket so I have nothing to reference. If anyone has a close-up picture of their rear gasket, I would truly appreciate it!.

Thanks,

Lee

to both questions, you've got the correct piece. The 3/4" width is glued to the edge of the sunroof panel so the bulb-shaped end is just flush with the sunroof panel and roof when the sunroof is closed. Too low and it may leak (and will look wrong); too high and it'll wear out quickly.

You'll have to remove the sunroof panel to install, but that's not too difficult if you have some instructions. See the archives.

Just remember, it goes in like a "P" not like a "d".

And I will disagree with mike that you do not have to pull the sunroof panel to get it in.

...However, if you have never pulled your sunroof panel I would go ahead and do it now. It is the perfect time to pull all the tracks and cables and stuff to clean and relube it. Those sunroof cables are very pricey! Far better to do it now in good weather than when the snows of Valdor set in.

Search for the info from DukeRimmer. His write-up gave me the will to tear into my sunroof and it was ~not that bad of a job~ afterall.
