distributor housing question

Gil

Recommended Posts

I have a Tii distributor out of a car that was stripped, but it looks like the engine must have fallen over on the floor. It has damaged the distributor housing and made it a bit oval shaped.

Can the housing be massaged back into shape? Or, can a non-Tii housing be used and all the Tii pieces swapped over? Would that maybe just involve welding up the hole for the advance mechanism?

TIA,

Gil

properly on the housing? If so, you have nothing to lose by placing the housing in a big vice (pad the vice jaws) and slowly squeezing it 'till it's round again. If you're careful (and lucky!) you'll be able to get it round without cracking the housing.

As for swapping innards, that might work--and you wouldn't have to weld up the hole where the vac advance goes, just cut a piece of thin aluminum over the hole (a scrap of aluminum siding is nice and soft and should work fine) and mount it with the original vac advance screws. Just be sure and mark your Frankenstein dizzy so the next owner will know what you did. You don't want to be one of those dreaded PO's!
