Don't do it. I bought my 02 for roughly the same price that this guy is asking and my car is 99% original. The interior is near flawless (one small crack in the dash), all the lights work and the engine runs strong and has always been serviced by BMW mechanics (the PO's dad owned a BMW dealership!) The only thing wrong with it was the surface rust on the edge of the trunk lid. If I were you, I'd walk away from this deal and be patient. I might be parting with one of my 02(the wife wont let me keep 2!). email me if you want to see pics. e46kid at yahoo dot com.

Yeah, I paid $2700 for a Texas car that had Recaro Classic seats in it and dorve it 8 hours to get it home Now I;m using it for parts for 2 other cars because it was originally in the mountains of North Carolina and salt soaked too many times underneath. buy a Ford Contour, Chevy Cavilier or some other daily-driver-piece-of-shit and wait it out until the right car comes along

It Will!

Be patient, something will come up on San Diego. I live here and watch the car market, for fun, and better deals come around.

I bought a 69 1600 for $1500 and it sounds alot like what you are looking at. Listen to the others, that bubble can equal big problems. In my case that bubble resulted in a shady quarter panel repair. Like a 1/4 inch of bondo shady.

I knew I wasn't getting a gem but I did know I was getting a straight and solid base (with the exception of the quarter panel).

The car you are looking at definitely seems overpriced for what it is.

Ok, I know many of you will think it was a stupid choice, but I bought the car!!! I've been doing my research. I know what I am getting myself into.

He had originally wanted $6,500 for it. Then knocked it down to $4,500 on craiglist.

I made a list of all the things wrong with it, and talked him down to $3,500.

(He seemed VERY mad at only getting that much. I tried my best to give him only $3,000 cash but it didn't work.)

Yes, I realize that's a lot.

But really, I've wasted more money trying to fix the current car that my boyfriend and I have, and it STILL doesn't work, and it's an UGLY stupid 95 truck.

So I would rather pour money into fixing something worth fixing.

I need a car to drive RIGHT now. So I don't have time to keep waiting around for "the perfect car/deal"

The car is really not as bad as I made it sound.

I was only pointing out the bad stuff!!!!!

We just drove it 9 hours down to San Diego last night, and it didn't overheat! The engine seems wonderful and taken care of.

Looking under the hood and under the car, all the parts are clean and look well taken care of, if not new.

I talked to the owner who owned it before the guy I bought it from, and he told me all the work he had done to it, rebuilt engine, etc.

The paint on the car is not SO bad. It's just not mint, that's all.

It is livable, just not 100% perfect.

As I get spare money, I'll just put it into the car. I don't mind.

I called my dad before I bought it (A BMW mechanic who used to rally race the cars as well) and he said the problems I mentioned weren't that hard to fix or that big of a deal. [he didn't know of current market prices though]

So yeah, as long as I don't find out the car is secretly covered in rust, it should be fine...........................

Even then, can't you buy a rust free body for like $500 ?

I know there was one on craigslist

but of course, the minute I said I was from out of town, they stopped emailing me.............

If people from craigslist weren't like that, I would have already had (a better) car by now.....

Ok, and now to fix the car! Wish me luck!

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
