Hey gang,

what size is the nut on the output flange of a getrag five speed? I need to hit up the sears or something on the way home. Is it a 30mm? Do they make a 30mm deep socket?

I'm trying to replace the seal on the back.

One other question--what fluid is used?

30mm THIN WALLED deep socket.

Fluid = Red Line MTL or whatever your owner's manual states

and grind it down on a bench grinder to get it to fit.

Also, I believe there is a brass keeper around the nut that keeps it from turning, prise it out before you take the nut out. I suggest you get a new one to put back in on reinstall. Put a bump in the brass keeper when it is on to secure it.

yeah, I'm looking through napa and sears, and no deep 30's. Might have to find a cheapy somewhere like kragens.

I have the seal kit from 2002 haus with rear seal and the lock plate-- so now the hard part is finding the right tooling!

You can buy a thin-walled 30mm deep socket on Ebay for about $35.

The seller is "El Paso Tools"... has anyone purchase this item? Comments?

Any alternate suggestions for a source for an appropriate socket?

$35 seems a bit steep, but grinding down a regular 30mm deep socket doesn't sound like fun.

EDIT: I just remembered that BavAuto also has one listed for $40

Sears, Home Depot, Lowes, Ace, NAPA, any of them should have them. You can also look for "AXAL SOCKETS" which are black and sold seperatly in auto stores. That's where I got my crank & rear axal crown nut sockets.... about $12/each at PepBoys
