I took out air pump and diverter valves and what am I to do with the 2nd port on the distributor? seal/plug it or what? would it be better if I get a new distribtor with 1 port?

I don't know about any difference in advance curves between the regular vacuum advance dizzy and the advance/retard dizzy like you have, but you should just disconnect the retard side at the dizzy. I don't remember where the retard vacuum signal originates... perhaps you have already pulled that part of the plumbing. If not, make sure to plug the port where the vacuum originates. There is no reason to plug the port on the dizzy other than to keep dust out.
