Where did you find a Mk1 Escort in CA?

There's a Ford Taunus for $1500 on the Bay Area craigslist at the moment. It has a V4. That's not a typo. :D

Very slick! The wheels are perfect. So when does a Cosse/ BDA/ Hart motor go in there?

Nice Esky, you just need to bolt up a weber 32/36 and you'll never stop smiling. I know in Oz you used to be able to pick old (one race old)Formula Ford engines pretty cheap, apparently its easier to build a new one than strip and rebuild - never did pick one up, but they were quick engines. Very cool! My dad had a 1974 Capri, bought new..I was 14 at the time and loved riding in it, pretty quick car. There is now a Golf roundie around town here (Rochester ). I've seen it a few times and found out yesterday that the guy bought it on ebay and is a neighbor of a woman I work with. She asked me yesterday about some 2002 resources to pass on to the guy; he was hit a week ago, damage to his passenger side I guess, happened by a Hess station in town. Sounds like the damage isn't that bad. I saw it just 2 weeks ago from a distance and it looked very nice. There are now 3 2002's within a few miles of me and a boatlload of mini coopers as well.

My first car was a 67 Ford Taunus, V4, 4on the column and front wheel drive.

I always liked those Escorts.

Thanks for the kind words. I was a bit nervous that you'd all kick me off the FAQ.

The car is a 1969 1300 GT. It was brought over from the Philippines by a local body shop. I really wanted a right hand drive car, but beggars can't be choosers, right?

It still has the original 1300 crossflow. It runs but needs constant attention while it's warming up or it will stall. The eventual plan is to fit a Cossie Duratec 2.3. Power output will probably be in the 200 - 250 bhp range. It seems like absurd amounts of power, but it's just too tempting to pass up. I'd never forgive myself if i didn't try to extract maximum performance...

The first area that will be addressed is the suspension. It's sitting at safari rally height at the moment. I'm working with Burton Power in the UK now to ship some suspension goodies over. I haven't been quoted a shipping price yet, but I'm afraid it's going to be brutal. If anyone has any Escort bits sitting in their garages then we definitely need to talk. ;-)

Thanks again for the kind words,

Robert
