Hey guys. It's less than 2 weeks away. Just a reminder. I am getting a lot of folks saying that they will be there. There's room for more, so let me know if you are thinking of coming. We will meet there at 1PM or so on Sept. 24th. Hope to see you there.

Boy, would I love to go....being an Antioch alum and all that.....however, Santa Monica is a little further away than your usual 'get together drive' enjoy, and someone have a Boston Shake at the ice cream place (can't remember the name, if its still there) for me. Have fun!

Jeff,

Are you referring to Youngs' Jersey Dairy? That's the ice cream place just north of Yellow Springs. At the rate that Youngs is growing it will be bigger than Y.S. in a couple of years... they even have their own stop light now.

What year did you graduate from Antioch? My wife and I met while we were there (mid to late '80s). She graduated in '89 but I'm still on co-op! ;)

Stop by if you ever make it out this way.

Karl,

I graduated in '82..through the lean years....but loved every minute of it. Although I've spent more times than I can count at Young's downing sausage sandwiches and shakes.....there was this other 'Foster's Freeze' type place, that was by the railroad tracks just before you got to the main street in town....along the road that came down and separated the campus from Glen Helen.......

Hmmm... now you've made me curious. The only dairy freeze type of place in the village is on the corner of Dayton & Walnut streets but that's not near the RR tracks. I wonder if there used to be another one over on Corry Street near the Glen... I'll have to ask around. Or it could be that my memory is on the fritz...

Jeff,

Yes, YS has changed a bit over the years but I'm sure you would still recognize it. And don't worry, the Little Art is still here --> http://www.littleart.com/. My wife and I went to see Little Miss Sunshine there last week.

The area near the tracks along Corry has gone through a couple of changes over the years, mostly because the RR tracks turned into a bike path. The only things in the area you refer to are the fire station and an art gallery (which is in the old Ehman building).

Karl

p.s. My wife tells me that the ice cream place was called Grote's. A memory failure on my part, apparently. I think it must have closed sometime in the mid-'80s.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
