swapping turn signal switches?

I have a '73 2002 with a broken dimmer switch stalk, and rather than replacing the original, I am contemplating whether it feasible to swap the later '75-'76 turn signal and headlight stalks in order to have the turn signal switch located on the left side of the steering column.

Has anyone successfully completed this swap?

If yes, do the newer switches mount right up to the steering column?

What modification/alterations to the mounting points and electrical wiring may be required (if any)??

Are there other components that will need to be swapped in addition to the two steering column mounted stalks/swtches?

Thanks in advcance,

Henry

on both a '69 and a '70 successfully. If memory serves (it's been 6 years), it's just a matter of swapping 'em side to side - no changes to the wiring, etc; don't remember for sure, but I think on the '69 the cancelling cam on the Momo steering wheel hub got rotated 180 degrees so it would line up properly with the turn signal switch.

OK... just to be clear ...are you suggesting using the existing switches rather than substituting switches from a later model... ?

I guess that should work fine for the turn signals without upsetting the functional orientation, but the headlight dimmer stalk will effectively be "upside down". Not sure if this has any real functional significance, other than the orientation of the lettering on the knob.

Perhaps this calls for a different approach.... maybe alll I really need to be concerned about is replacing the broken dimmer switch with one that is suitable for mounting on the right side of the steering column. If I can implement intermittent wiper controls at the same time that would be a bonus!

That was one of the best things I ever did to the car. Get a set of switches from a '76; that year for sure has the intermittent wiper function, and you can add that by getting the wiper relay with it.

You will need to rewire the harnesses to the 'new' switches. The connectors are different, and the wiring is different. See if you can get one-foot sections of a '76 car harness including the connectors for the two switches.

The switches fit mechanically without mods.
