Any advise on door latch bushings ?

I need to replace the small bushings that the door latch rods go through. It looks like I have to remove the inner door handle mechanism as well as the door latch from the car to get the hooked rods off and back on. Is there any simple procedure for this ?? Thanks in advance.

The door panel R&R is the biggest part of the job. After that, removing the handle and latch involves just a few screws. After you've gone that far, you might as well do a "door service": clean and lube the window regulators, window tracks and guides, and door latch (soak in solvent, blow dry, lube well with Wurth HHS 2000 or lithium grease; remove and discard the old broken parts from the bottom of the door; replace the door brake; adjust the window mechanisms and door latch. Replace the plastic sheet under the door panel.

Parts to have on hand, per door:

1 ea - 51-21-0-301-601 Door brake, new style, or

51-21-6-450-014 Door brake, old style

1 ea - 51-21-6-450-054 Door brake pin

1 meter - 51-95-1-924-961 Door film

3 ea - 52-20-8-238-999 Lock rod grommet

12 ea - 51-41-1-870-718 Door panel snap (new green style)

Thanks Curt.

If you only knew how correct your quote is. Every job on this thing has led to others. Gas tank, pedal box, heater box etc. I'm sure I'll be in touch soon, the radiator is getting that coppery colored spots on it, I'm sure it'll blow up any day.

The door panels are off, the door brake is already out, I have the bushings and Dave Varco's plywood door panel backings with new clips. I just didn't know if pulling the latches out was like taking apart a watch or anything. I'll dive in tonight.

If you do remove the inside door lever assy, make sure it is adjusted BEFORE putting the door panel back on. Just screw in the arm rest to the door, then install the door lever to see if you need to rotate it up or down to clear the armrest. It's a royal pain to have evrything back on only to find you gotta pull it all off to adjust the stupid lever. From experience.
