Found these flares. What group & what years were they us

I found a guy in Colorado that makes these flares and airdam for the 02. Dan Koutorov AKA "coupeguy" . Does anyone know what the story is with them?? I have seen and am familiar with alpina, schnitzer and factory cars but not sure what run groups these were used on. I already had someone Photoshop a turbo bodied car but would like to know if someone could do the last attached picture in Golf. I am still undecided on what flares to use. The guy claims they are 76 style grp 2 but I want to make sure.

The flares and airdam really remind me of my favorite of all BMW E9 CSL cars. (attached pics)

The Luigi belgian team gruppe 2 cars of the mid to late 70s.

Should I be so bold as to paint mine like this car?? ( the red and white one)

If i keep it golf i think it might look pretty cool and kinda like the 3rd picture down.

Also, Does anyone know what his stuff is like?? Quality or Junk??

Thanks for all the Help!!

Alonso

There is a photo of a car with very similar flares to this in the Mike McCartney '02 restoration book. It's on page 205. The caption doesn't answer your questions but maybe some web browsing off of the key words would turn something up: "A well prepared 2002ti race car, built and raced in a classic car championship by Autocursa in Spain." Good luck.

You are Awsome Beaner7102!!! I first considered the turbo flares which are nice. But your photoshoped pictures just sold me on these flares. I am going to order them!! I really appreciate your help. The golf color does that look justice. I mean the pic oozes performance!! That car will deserve the m20 stroker in the works. torque torque and more torque.

Thanks!

I've been considering 'em for the race car,

as they give another 30+ mm ofer my (overstuffed) Turbo flares.

Do a search for Vasek Polak and BMW and see if anything comes up...

As far as my research has turned up, these flares where used in '76 gruppe 2 and onwards into 1979. Just because the E21 was out and racing, didn't mean the 2002 wasn't still campaigned by privateers. The factory cars by Schnitzer and Alpina ran the box flares from '74-76.

TobyB,

I will do a search and let you know what I come up with.

Vasek Polak seems like a good candidiate for a grp 2 as he ran the csl's in the 70's. I might make a run of a few sets if i do buy them. I will sell them at a good price. A few bucks less than what I will pay for the ones I buy. Maybe make a few in carbon fiber or kevlar. I'll definately let you know. The fun part is going to be finding a set of very nice period racing wheels in 15"x10 and 15"x9.

Nice!!!!

JK do you know if the second picture is actually golf or a variation of yellow?? It looks really good in that color. I will definately keep mine golf. I should be a pretty nice looking sled.
