replaced head-gasket now it idles at 4k rpms. HELP! (tii)

let me just start off by saying i dont think its a vacume leak, ive had them before and never have they made it go up to 4k. i set the timing just enoght to get it running, could the timing possibly be at fault? i disconected the throttle linkage at the k fisher and held it all the way down while

(zero throttle) my friend cranked it and it still goes to 4k plus. i held a book in front of the throttle body and cranked it and still 4k. i have no idea what it could be, so before i give it to my mechanic and pay a bunch of money ide like to know what the experts on the faq think.

its secured with a circle clamp onto the manifold, like it should be
