bmw 315 E21

I Found something unusual today at a local Denver junkyard. A "1975" BMW 315 (E21).

I was too dull to write down the VIN, but the plate in the engine compartment does indeed say 315, and it has single headlights. The engine already had the carb pulled, but the intake looks normal, and the rest of the engine looks like any other M10. According to what I read online so far, this was the cheapest economy model E21 from 1979-?, never imported to the USA (by BMW). The "1975" marked on it on it by the junkyard is probably wrong. It is a bit unusual inside, with no console and no clock. The rear end does not have the black ribbed material like US 320's between the tail lights. I Couldn't make out any badge shadow on the trunklid and all badges were gone. It had no sign of a toolbox on the underside of the trunklid. I forgot to look at the bumpers (duh). It has a 4 speed transmission.

Anyone in dire need of 315-specific parts? Anything unique to this model that I should go back for? I doubt there's much on it that will fit my roundie-in-progress.

Thanks,

Cal

Interesting that someone would even bother importing something like that. Sounds like a base model euro only car. Maybe check for a limited slip, though I highly doubt it would have one.

If its rust free, I wonder if any of the E21 crowd would want to rescue the car because it is so unusual here.

I finally had a chance to go back and look at the car.

Sorry, the bumpers aren't in good condition, as each has been bent in several places. They sure are attractive compared to the US version, though. Chrome with a reasonable width black rubber strip, and no overriders.

The other think I noticed is that there are none of the (my opinion) ugly side marker lights. Think of it as the "1967" style E21 (to put it in '02 terms).

Oh, there was no LSD either...

GRAB THE LIGHTS AND GRILLS!!!! Those are rare here in the US and could command some money. Especially if you can get them cheap!!!

I would say, grab the car and rescue it if you can. E21's are suprisingly fun little cars... I have a 323 and love it to death!

Please feel free to PM me with any questions you might have.

Cheers,

Jonas
