Clutch master disaster

I may convert my car to an automatic. I have no less than 3 hours into trying to install the metal line from the brake fluid reservoir into my new master cylinder. I tried it while bolted to the pedal box, I've tried it with the cylinder loosly bolted so I could swivel it a bit, no go.

I spent the last 1 1/2 hours with it loose from the box and the flare on the end of the tube just cuts up the grommet and it never fully seats. The tube just pops out when trying to mount the cylinder.

Does anyone know the secret handshake that gets these two parts together ?

I took the prescribed overnight timeout, Sat morning I went over to work looking for a new bushing to replace the one that the steel line tore up. Well, that part doesn't seem to exist for sale, not in any of the old parts books, not the ETK, nothing. So I figure that I'm in for a new master. I started poking around on the shelves and found that the bushings that go into the top of the brake master are the same. Bingo, $ 2.00 later and a tube of lube later it is in the car. Coupled with trying to put those damn bolts in while alone makes this about the least pleasant part of this entire project.

I did get it running today though. First time in 4 years. It moved under it's own power with a milkcrate recaro.
