Vendor Rating

Wouldn't it be a good thing if we as 02 owners could rate our vendors similar to the way e-bay members are rated. This came to my mind after reading the complaints against I.E. and 2002AD. Assuming that the vendors also go onto this forum once in a while, they would know right away what the community feels about them and they would make sure that their service stay top-notch in order to keep on getting business from this forum's members.

Short of a rating system, which might be too complicated or ambitious, we could have a forum called "Vendors" where we could leave good as well as bad experiences and the vendors would have the opportunity to respond.

I would agree, but it would need to be regulated.

I see the potential for flame wars. Someone that is unhappy could really load up the scoring to make the vendor look bad even if the vendor is not at fault. What kind of recourse would the vendor have?

Many of the vendors DO visit this list. Even Max has come on to help resolve issues. One thing to keep in mind is that just because someone got poor service doesn't mean you will as well. And just because you got the deal of the century doesn't mean your buddy will get the same service next week. There is the human element and every transaction is different. I have heard the bad things about IE, but I have also heard many good things and he has even posted info to the FAQ.

I'd like to see a rating system, but I'd like to see it controlled.

Hmm, even Max, a vendor with most of his client base in one convenient corner of the internet. He comes here. Even him. Gosh. (Ray consults his societal hierarchy chart... lessee...

I just wanted to drop ONE name to sort of put a face of who visits the site. I could have pulled out the majic mirror and done the Romper Room thing...

I see Ray, and Mark, and Carl, and Rob, and Max, and Al, and Jack, and ...

NOT to put Max up above anybody else. He just has an established business for many years.

But I think my list would be similar:

Bill Arnold (BMW Repair God)

Saint Michael Dubois

Pretty good idea...a vendor rating forum would have saved me from falling prey to a certain SSSLLLOOOWWW vendor in the past.

I think it could be done without special programming other than setting up a "Vendor Rating" forum. That forum would be composed of poll threads only citing 3 options (pos, neutral, neg) and the thread subjects would be the vendor names. Then any comments or vendor responses could be added to the threads as usual. Limit the polls to one vote per user in order to stop obvious abuse. The polls should also display votes by username if that option is available just to keep in line with the notion of the accused being able face their accusers, etc.
