Headlights quit working- follow up

BimmerSooner and I had nearly identical problems with our headlights on our 72tiis all in the same week. There are basically 9 items in the circuit. Battery, ignition switch, headlight switch, dimmer switch, fusebox, fuses, headlight connectors, headlights, and grounds. Also a couple of connectors in there on the switches and such.

I finally broke out the multimeter and started looking last night. Key on, switch on, I had +12 at the fuses. Unplug the headlight connectors and I had +12 there as well. It couldn't be as simple as that, could it? I dig my spare sealed beam out of the trunk and hook it to one of the connectors. Key on, switch on...I have light. I dig my other spare out of the garage and plug it in...I have working headlights. I bench tested the two old lights and verified that the low beam elements were both faulty while the highs were good.

Working in electronics, I have to remind myself that sometimes it ~is~ just a burned out bulb.

I read somewhere (McCartney's book I think). that leaving the H4's on while stationary will burn them out due to overheating.

FWIW.

Cheers,
