Mechanic says "Warm up sensor on my Tii needs rebuild&

Guest

Im not a mechanic but i believe this part is on the Kugelfischer injection system. Apparently he took it apart and cannot ajust it correctly. He wanted to know if it needs a rebuild. He said it has something to do with the air intake??? The car is a 74 Tii

Any info would help.

Thanks

Unless it is Jack Fahanua or Rob saying this, I would think twice.

I do not think the warm up sensor can be rebuilt. I have only heard of putting on a new one at the tune of a couple hundred dollars.

Make sure your mechanic knows tiis before you go purchasing a new warm up regulator.

Jaymic used to offer rebuilt units. Personally I was much happier with my Tii when I replaced it with a simple switch - never had a flooded engine after that.

Methinks you may be referring to the thermo time switch. I doubt you replaced the warm up regulator on the pump.

Luddite.

bugger, bloody know all. Of course, you're right, and in fact Jaymic also offered rebuilt warm up units - I replaced mine with one and it was still buggered - usual case of not a very good remanufactured part. Replaced for free and was OK, but seem to recall it was a right arse to fit, twice!

Nick (whose not had a Tii for donkeys years, so that's my excuse)

I'd have to agree with Bill, make sure the mechanic is very familiar with tii's. He/she should have checked the thottle linkage for wear and adjusted the linkage first, among other checks. A worn thottle body can also cause problems with the air/fuel ratio. I had the rubber hose blow off from the bottom of the thottle body once when I shut the engine down, and cause the car to run poorly until I could reconnect it. So many things to check, so little time...

Assuming you're talking about the warm-up transmitter (which enriches the mixture on your car when cold, and leans out as the temp temp increases) there is a pretty simple test to see if its fubared

If you take an old pot and put it on the stove. Put the warm up transmitter in there and let it come up to a boil. The shaft should extend 10mm when hot -- if it does than the unit should still be OK

Here is a pic of the warm-up transmitter. Its on the end of your KF (in this pic it has the blue covers on it)

Hey Z, yeah thats the part in your pic. Ill let the mecahnic know your advise, as well as everyone elses too. I usually use Bill Holmes but i have a warranty with this guy on the car otherwise i would have Bill look at it. He would know what to do.

Thanks all you guys for all the replys, its so great to have all of you to help a fellow 02er.

I havent been on the board as much lately because im back in school and real busy, i almost forgot how great it is to hang out here.

Nice!! I"ve never actually seen one of those in person.. just pics

Ya hopefully the boil thing will work. Sometimes the thing just gets gummed up so doing the boil thing can also clean out various 30 year old goo too (why you want to use an OLD pot)

best of luck
