Oil leaking from head gasket ?

If I look at my engine block from the driver side I can see a good deal of oil which looks like it is seeping down the block and catching on the lip adjacent to the dip stick and oil filter.

No oil on the other side of the block

Is this most likely my head gasket leaking?

I assume this is a fairly expensive repair?

Here's a pic

Thanks

Russ

I would suggest first, clean the whole area, preferable with a pressure washer or washer wand on an air compressor. It can, of course, be done by hand and a stiff parts cleaning brush or stiff-bristled paint brush. Then take a closer look @ where the oil is coming from. If it turns out to be a head gasket, and I'm inclined to think that the oil is not coming from there, then, depending on your proclivity toward, and your experience with, mechanical repairs, replacing a head gasket is not a real involved or difficult job. I'm 68 yrs. old and just did mine 2 mos. ago by myself. If you don't have a Haynes manual, get one. And, if you decide to do it yourself, come back on this forum for some important tips.

k cover... one time in 6 that thing just doesn't seal.

There is no oil at that point in the head- just water.

So check the valve cover, too- the intake bolts don't leak as the exhaust ones do...

I've got the same oil leak... up on the top of the timing chain cover. And I think its leaking on the back somewhere near the dizzy. I feel like it should be fixed (and I'm not inclined to do it myself).

Whan can I expect to pay to plug up those leaks?
