Strut tower brace question.

Recommended Posts

Is there anything that needs to be done before removing the bolts that hold the strut to the tower before adding a brace? Or can I just remove them put the brace on and torque down the nuts?

Thanks

YESYESYESYEYSYEYEYSYESYSSYSYSYES!!!!!!!!!!! *IF* your strut-top bearings are cracked/collapsed/collapsing!! The entire weight of the front end of the car rests on the RUBBER-mounted bearings, but dont worry if they are on their way out, there is ZERO chance of the strut coming through the fender hole and attacking you!! (contrary to what you might have heard!!!!) unless that hole or fender is SERIOUSLY rusty, that is!...

anyways, here is a pic of what im talking about....

strut_bearings_newandold.jpg

the NEW one is installed, the OLD one is on the fender, about to go in the trash bin! if yours look like the one on the right, replace em!! :)

just in case ... thought id mention it.. ;)

edit: to evaporate another "myth", you can see the collapsed one doesnt even look all that cracked, but dont let that decieve you. its the *height* that matters. seth was scraping the tops of his strut hats on the underside of the fender/bearing itself, which is no good for anybody!! ;-)
