Heater box/motor removal. Can it be removed with out taking

The dash doesn't have to come out, but the center console does.

No the dash does not have to come out, but your center console does.

Make sure you take your heater core to your local radiator shop with your heater box apart. Your heater core hasn't seen the light of day in over 30 years. Bolt the heater box back together, you may need to get back into it and it sucks drilling pop rivets out. Been there, done that!

Is it possible to remove the blower fan without fully removing the heater box? My fan bearings have gotten to the point where the fan hits the housing and stops turning. In all other respects the heater box is fine. I just don't want to have to tear the whole thing out if I can avoid it, especially after reading about some other people's headaches upon reinstallation.

Can I weasel the fan out of there, or does the whole box have to come out?

The whole box has to be removed in order to change the heater motor.

Bummer. That's what I figured.

Oh well. I don't actually have a console or carpet in my car yet. I can see the whole heater box just by looking under the dash. I was just hoping to avoid shoehorning my 6'2" body under the dash to get the box out.
