Line to the Clutch Master Cylinder Blues

Well my brake system overhall is almost complete.....

EXCEPT

The fluid line that is from the reservoir to the clutch master cylinder is giving me fits.

I can not seem to reattach the line to the new clutch master cylinder.

With the old one it came out relatively easy but when I try to insert the flaired tip it won't budge (hey! no sexual inuendos please)

I have tried greasing the tip and then try it, no go.

Does anybody have any tricks that I can try.

Your wisdom is sorely needed. HELP!

It is the angle that makes it tough. I just went through this, with help from Mike Pugh, we loosened the master from inside the pedal box allowing a more friendly angle to insert the tube. It takes two to do this.

I have done this once without removing the master, I just applied a tremendous amount of pressure while wiggling the tube, to get it to slip into that grommet.

Wish I could be more help!

It took me less time to remove and rebuild the pedal box than it has to install that stupid line. I have 2 hours into it so far and stopped because I figured I was going to screw something up. I guess I'll just lube it up and force it.

I was thinking of doing that, I don't know if one can detach that gromit with our doing any damage to the c.m.c..

Other than that, I am thinking of shaving the edges a bit.

is your line a hard or soft line? on my late 69 02 it's a hard metal line, and i just reached while under the car, lined the pipe up with the grommet on the master cylinder, and pushed and wiggled. went right in. it takes a fair bit of pressure.

Hmmm, my feed line is metal, might be tough to shave just a little off. I was wondering if anyone pulled the grommet out of the cylinder, installed it on the line and then reinstalled the grommet, or would that ef up the grommet.

I tried removing the grommet, putting it on the (metal) line and then putting the grommet back in, but had no success. Ended up putting the grommet back in, and then doing what Bill said he did. I was amazed at how much force it took to get the line back in. Swore some.

I will be doing it again soon, and will probably install the line to the MC on the bench, and then install the whole assembly. Or, convert to an RHD pedal box, which seems easier :)
