I have a 72 02 w/ bilstein hds, eibach pro-kit springs, st 22/19 bars, urethane everyplace, fixed camber plates and 185/60/14 Yoko AVS ES100s. It rides great and I don't think such a set-up would be a problem for you, even in downtown D.C. or Georgetown. There is still a lot of suspension travel. Ideally, I would like it just a touch lower in the front with a bit stiffer struts/shocks all around. You might also check out H&R springs as well as the two types of street springs Ireland sells. Honestly, though, the Eibachs are great and most of the quality aftermarket street springs will probably work well for you.

I too have 22/19 st. bars and all new bushings bearing et. ie rebuilt rear sub frame. and I'm fairly satisfied.I'd like a firmer set up than the St. offers.Over the years I've had a couple of MKI Golfs w/ H&R coilovers and want to avoid the punishment/comprimise in the name of handling.**Thanks for your experience...**

Great then you do know.I'm enjoying my this tii as a fairly soft occaisional driver. No snowlas little rain as preventable etc.I'm not looking for the modified, lowered miserable driver.I may end up swapping out the ST's.*John, consider coming up to the Vintage at Carpool on the 30th*

Coop once told me that he had the Ireland street springs with Billy HD's in his 74 tii and they were great. I think he said he could still load 4 people in the car.

Anyone have the Ireland street springs?

The Eibach Pro-Kit springs are an excellent choice. I installed them in my brothers car with Bilsteins and they performed real well. It's a great compromise between ride and handling. We're going to replace the Bilsteins with the Koni Sports due to the fact that the Bilsteins are starting to make some noise. The Koni's should make the ride quality much better due to the hydraulic design.

I've got the Ireland stage 1 springs with their 22mm swaybars and bilstein sport shocks on my '76. Great combo for the streets. They can be alittle rough around the streets here in downtown L.A., but are awesome when the road is smooth and curvy. Ireland makes some really good stuff.

The ST springs are pretty much the same as the Eibach's so there is no real reason to bother changing over. H&R's however will improve your lowering (stance) bringing you down another .5" and there is no sense spending a fortune buying new springs from 02haus for nothing. If you have some money to throw away, spend it on Ireland stuff like street springs, and add some good sway bars while your at it, much better investment.

buy f/r swar bars from Irerland Engineering for less than $400 and keep the springs & shocks. I have new Bilstiens, B&G springs (1.75" lower) and IE sway bars front & rear. Rides fine, looks good, handles great.

Oh, don't forget to use shock tower strut bars front and rear.

The 22/19 ST sway bars are fine for my use,the shocks are decent for non-competitive use.I'm thinking the soft ST sport springs may be a bit soft.Overall,I'm ok w/ the ride, and handling ..but considering additional improvement.

John, you could go with a coil over set up and then play around with different springs.

COOP, what springs do you have? I think I read it somewhere that they were fairly soft.

I've got the same coilover springs as Coop - 250 front, 200 rear. Urathane everywhere, Bilsteins and Ireland front and rear sway bars. Corners like a go kart, but on anything but smooth roads it starts to get too jumpy, and it's too easy to loose traction as a result.

I'm going to look into custom Eibach coilover springs - the set-up with a softer tender spring and a firmer main spring. All they need is corner weights and they come up with suggested combinations depending on use.
