Need a part number? Ask here...

G'day all...

I normally find my part numbers at www.realoem.com/bmw/select.do

I thought it might be good to start a thread here to see if someone could help me and perhaps it could become a place where people come to look to see if the part numbers are listed here and ask for help if the are not.

There are a few things I am trying to tidy up right now and cannot find part numbers anywhere... I hope this can become a useful tool for others.

I was wondering if some one could help me with the part number for black plastic sill covers/entry plates.

I am also after the part number for a small piece of moulded plastic that fits the hole in the nose cone where the battery is normally "rebated" into... if that makes sense?

Cheers,

Todd

BMW used 3 different sill strips, the earlier 2 styles are NLA. The current number is 51 47 1 822 070 for the black plastic sill cover, the gasket strip for it is part # 51 47 1 822 072. Hope this helps.

I use the ETK all day everyday, and find it lacking in detail on older cars. Many of the parts that Mobil Tradition has reissued are not shown at all. I would suggest going retro and buying the parts books. The part numbers are 01 09 9 760 244 and 245, could be a good $ 75 investment.

ahhh, you're showing your austrailian/british roots. 'rebate' is a uniquely british term. i've not heard it used in the same manner in the states. i've only heard it used wrt to 'rebate planes' aka dado planes in the US woodworking community. sorry, WWOT.

as for your panel, cut one out of a plastic milk carton till you can locate the genuine item. i couldn't imagine a bit of air flowing through that passage is a bad thing.

Once you locate a part #, where is the best place to go for ordering?

I'd prefer something online, as I'm usually at work from 8-6 everyday, and can't get out to dealerships without sitting in traffic for an hour.

Suggestions?

I've never seen the plug that you are referring to under the battery. But, if you go to the illustration labelled 41/10 body side panel, you'll see several plugs listed by diameter. One of those may be what you're looking for.

If I were in the states, I'd call Bavauto with the part number, they'd be happy to order anything for you. But then again I AM biased.

I use Bell BMW in NJ. I've ordered a BUNCH of stuff from them. They sell it at wholesale...but shipping is not cheap...but still better than paying list. I've never had a problem...fast turn around. I agree with you on the "online" ordering. There seems to be no close BMW dealers up by me. It's not worth the hassle!

Hmmm!

There must be several BMW Dealerships in Atlanta!

5 to be exact...but Atlanta (much like...say a Houston,TX) is very S P R E A D out. It's not too convenient when you include driving in our traffic (UGH). I "hear" what Harrison is saying...it's hard when your working to find enough "free time" to make runs to these dealers. Not to mention...it's just faster & cheaper to order it online...and get it dropped off at your front door. ;-)
