Automatic Choke - Need Help

I have a '74 2002 with a 32/36 DGAV Weber carb. I just rebuilt the carb and added a Weber air filter to replace the OEM unit. My car runs great, starts right up, doesn't backfire and doesn't diesel when I turn it off. However, the automatic choke doesn't work now. I have to manually step on the accelerator until the car warms up. After that, the car seems just fine. Prior to the rebuild it was the other way around. The automatic choke would engage, the car would idle at 2500RPM, I would hit the accelerator again once warmed up and off I would go. Of course I have the myriad of problems I previously described. Any suggestions? Fixes?

Off topic but, how much do you want for your stock airfilter housing? BTW check your chock setting. Is it where it was before? Did you disassemble the chock housing?

The DGAV is a water choke, is that correct? Assuming that you've got the hoses connected and there's nothing wrong with the heating element, it's should be a matter of adjustment. I suggest taking a look early in the morning before you start the engine for the first time. Remove the air cleaner, open the throttle via the linkage by hand (pump the throttle), the choke plate should now close. If it isn't closing, loosen the three screws on the choke mechanism, I think you have to loosen the 10mm nut on the housing also. Rotate the body counter clockwise (standing at the right front fender looking at the carb) to close the choke. Close it just enough so that plate gently closes, you don't want to go too far or the choke will stay activated longer than necessary. Tighten everything, you should be good to go.

I just removed the choke setup from my DGEV, I find it runs better now. I have to pump it a couple of times to get it to start when it's really cold, but I find I can get more precise mixture adjustments without it. Just a thought.

I have the same setup and my choke was stuck for months before I figured it out. My car got harder to start as time went on also. I merely screwed the choke adjustment screw in all the way until the floats were stuck in an open position. I then screwed them back out until they closed, cleaned with carb cleaner and now the choke is working ...well almost perfectly.
