making plug wires...edis and an 02

I need to work out a set of plug wires. I am running edis ignition with a coil pack form a ford escort. I actually hooked everything up today and got the car to start off the edis but the wires are not making very good contact to the plugs.

So...is it possible to make plug wires? I want the coil pack connection on one side and the 02 connection on the other. I just bought a new set of wires that connect to the coil pack so if I can just get ends to crimp/solder on the wires that would be great.

Where would I get these ends? And what is the best way to attach them?

Sure -- you can make plug wires. You just need the proper crimping tool, and the components (boots, etc.). Any local speed shop can do this for you -- I use Douglas Speed Shop, for example, a local guy here in Silver Spring, Maryland. I just tell Larry Lint (yes, that's his real name) what length wire I want, and he crimps it right up. I'm sure you have some local speed shop where you live; most of the guys, however, are Ford or Chevy guys, so all you need to do is convince the guy behind the counter to do work for a "foreign car" (Larry had an 02, so he's cool with it). Also, if you attend any of the local NSRA events, they always have at least 4 or 5 vendors who can make plug wires, on the spot -- and looms, etc. Hot rodders are really into the "clean" look on their engines, so making plug wires is "old hat." The advantage to those guys is that you can get just about any color that you want. So, that's where I'd go -- either to the speed shops, or to a vendor booth at a street rod show.

make sure the plugs you have in three now will work with the coil packs! some of the coil packs require plugs with internal resistance to work properly or you may have some issues. Just an FYI if you didnt already know.

all you need to do is pick up a set of 4 cylinder universal plug wires, like the Accel 8mm wires I bought. It comes with a big assortment of different ends you can use on the coil side (HEI, etc.). You just need to pick up a cheap crimping tool and some dielectric grease, and follow the directions.

wait, you mean a late model ford escort? those have some weird ends on them with a clip on each side. That might not be very easy. The universal wires I mentioned come with a plug boot on them, and you cut them to length, and put on the right piece to stick them onto the distributor cap. But I don't know about those weird snap on ends.....

Forgive me if I am stating the obvious here, but the Escort wires are designed to go onto plugs that have those fat little aluminum nipples still on them. You know, the ones that we normally throw away?

I am running junkyard escort wires right now, and I had the same issue when I first tried to install the wires. Once I installed some of those little aluminum fatties, they stayed on tight.
