Is there a site to decode a 1974 tii vin?

Ours is 2780019

It's Jade Green (078). According to a number of paint sites (http://www.dagsites.com/2002colors.htm & others), they didn't offer that color for tii's in '74.

Any ideas?

My 2/74 color brochure shows Amazonasgrun as available, while the 1/75 brochure shows your Jadegrun, as well as Mintgrun and Taiga-metallic as available.

Do a "search" on site for the Mobile Tradition e-mail contact - supply them the VIN and they'll tell you original color and delivery date/place.

I went to http://www.realoem.com/bmw/ where they said our Tii was made in 10/73 - the 19th square Tii to come across to the US.

The site doesn't say anything about colors though. The color sticker is on the car (078 Jadegrun) and the car is clean yet definitely original. I'll dig a little deeper and find a Mobile Tradition contact as you suggested.

The color question (why Jadegrun on a '74 when that color isn't listed in the books) isn't a show stopper or anything like that. We're just trying to satisfy our curiosity.

if you send an e-mail to Andreas.Harz@partner.bmw.de asking for production info you will get an exact production date and original paint code.

my '74 tii, VIN 2780168 was made in 01/74 so it is definitely possible that yours was made in 10/73 as they did a couple batches.

my tii is turkis, a rare color and it came from the factory that way. it's always possible someone special ordered a color from a previous model year. i know a guy who ordered an E46 M3 in an E36 M3 paint color, so it is still being done!
