Help with Tii injection trouble and conversion options

This is a newbie question after searching for an answer in the form. I have a 02 with a tii conversion. After trying to get the fuel injection working, I discovered that the belt on the fuel distributor is missing. I understand that the setup and tunning could be very time consuming and is better left to the experts. My question is whether I could expect any performance gains if I just went ahead and switched to weber carbs or possibly a stand alone setup such as megasquirt or motec. I think I really would like to keep the current setup but info doesn't hurt

I am in San Diego and would appreciate help.

Thanks!

once set, the stock tii system requires less routine maintenance than webers. chances are the belt just needs replaced, they are very inexpensive.

you have a number of pros near where you live who can get you going.

just one opinion.. but my tii is the best running 2002 out of the 8 I have owned.

best of luck!

Keep the tii injection...once it's all set up, it will stay that way for years. It's way more dependable than carbs and way less complicated than piecing together a half assed megasquirt system. Just get a new belt. You have to get it at the dealer or some other bmw place..the belt is about $35 which I think is actually expensive for a belt. Dont forget to line up the timing marks on the injection pump when you put the belt back on.

Make sure you rotate the crank to TDC (aligh the mark on the cam) and then align the hash mark on tii injection pump, otherwise you could be 180' off.

Buy two belts, install one and keep the other one in the car as your spare.

what everyone else said: keep the KF setup -- but the belts are really like $15-$20 bucks

I guess I came to the right place for advice. I will give that a shot. I was going to sell the car in order to build something else after thining out the stable. It makes perfect sense to keep the current setup. I will post picks of my car soon. It is a malaga 76 with koni sway bars front and rear, eibach springs and koni shocks. I will be switching the interior from tan to black and will have newly upholstered black recaros. she sits really low on basket weave 13's. I plan to add turbo flares and a turbo airdam.

Thanks you all for your advice and help!!
