non-contact thermometer recommendations?

i got my brother a raytek back when they first came out, and it DIED a short time thereafter (but outside of warranty period). anybody got a recommendation on a decent one for not too much scratch?

I have an IR gun that does a decent job. They're available from any racing store, check summit for example. The price is like $30 to $60...

I use one for kart racing, works OK, not as good at a real pyrometer, but hell of cheaper!
