tii badge

Recommended Posts

The earlier one is mounted on the "flat" of the lower section between the lights on a roundie to the right of the car.

The 73> was mounted higher up above the rear lights in a 'spooned out section' bewteen the trunk trim and the rear lights on the right hand sice.

Therefor the back of the badge is created to fit the contours of the body lines. They cannot be used as substitutes in either situations.

I believe you will find that the only tii badge out there new now is for the '74tii. My mechanic is restoring a '72tii and bought a new badge...the tips on the back that go throught he panel don't line up with the holes in the panel. I suspect it's for the '74.

Better check to see if there are different p/n's for this part.

Oh yeah, there are different #'s, 51 14 1 815 197 is for the pre-74 cars, but BMW discontinued it years ago. 51 14 1 827 963 is the # they superceded it to, but Todd is correct, the shape of it is different as are the pin locations.

The backside of the badge on my '72 is curved where as the backside of the badge on my '74 is "flat". The difference in shape is due to the location of the badge ('72's have badges located closer to the bumper than on '74s - don't know about '73s).

As I suspected! @$%*&! Oh well...I have one it's just dull. Maybe I'll have it chrome plated....

I've seen several of the tii badges for sale, but I believe they are all for later '02s. The people selling them have no idea; I've asked.

Thanks to all.

I don't know for certain, but when I bought my last new one, I was under the impression it was for a 2002tii touring, because it was the only one available I was told, and it fit the early tii's. I'd check with Maxmillian's, they should know.

Sooner, There is one on Ebay currently that if I remember is for a pre-74; for the lower right as is on the 73 roundtail. Bidding ends early evening. If you don' get this in time, I may have it, but dont really need it. I dont remember the #, but I think its in bmw 2002 tii in car and truck parts. Good luck. Dave V. in NC

Have you checked to see if they are available new?

At the BMW CCS Oktoberfest last year, BMW Mobile Traditions had a display of new parts, including a lot of 02 emblems. See my pictures
