New muffler and L light problem (fixed hopefully)

First I have to tell you about the muffler. I finally got the Magnaflow muffler put on that I got for about $60. After $130 install to run the pipe the right way I got to drive it home from the shop and to work this morning. WOW! It sounds great. No more really loud annoying growl. I can actually sit in the car and have a conversation. And I think the added back pressure has helped low end torque. I'm finally able to push the car a bit to see what its limits are.

Now for the L light. Just before the engine mount popped out back in June, the L light started to come on after start up and would go out after about 10 minutes of driving. But now it won't go out, it fades in and out, but is always on. All the ground look ok, so what else could this be?

Pictures later of the new muffler. Can't wait to go to lunch to drive the 02.

At lunch I had a little time to fiddle with the car. Well, actually I had too, it was getting hard to start, like the battery was weak. So I had to do something. Once I got the carbs air cleaner tightened down I started looking at the alternater. It does move a bit, I'll have to get those urethane bushings for it, but as I was wiggling it, I noticed the three pronged plus was loose. I pulled it and it came out with no resistance. Plugged it back in and it still felt loose. So I bent the prongs out a little on the alt and plugged it back in, much tighter fit.

Started the car and no more L "battery/charging" light.

Since I was already at it, I timed the ignition a little more to get it running smoother. Idles much smoother now and didn't lose the low end grunt like before.

Now it is starting to be fun again.....
