Souping it up

Recommended Posts

Guest Anonymous

The constant in a Tii that everything associated with souping it up revolves around is the fuel injection. It is hard to change and is anything but like a modern electronic system that can be jacked around to an amazing extent. A different cam won't match the injection system. Head work won't match. Exhaust work etc. etc. The injection system is all mechanical no feedback it is like a permanent fuel map set up for the engine as is.

To get a little more sence of horse power you could go for a higher rear end number like a 411 or 392 limited slip.

Keep it running and have fun

READ the board, SEARCH the archives....

I did a$$hole. A search on here yields far too many results and I have to spend an inordinate amount of time searching through each of every one of them--many of which have nothing to do with what I originally asked.

Maybe very soon we can just shut the board down, allow no more posts and just exist solely on archives. Surely every question has already been asked and answered once. Geezus.

Please rise above it all, and please don't call people names.

As the other guys said the limiting factor is the fi. However you can just optimize everything a little and get decent results.

I would first make sure everything is working the best it can and then I'd look into an MSD ignition or even a crankfired ignition.

Other guys can tell you more. I remember once passing on an A4 system complete with airbox for like 300 bucks.............

OK, you have a tii, I'm assuming this is still got the injection system, so I'm a carbed 2002 owner, but have heard you can put the longer duration cams (284 to 292 or 300) in tii's just fine. That's what I'd do. But you might want to find out what kinda adjustments to the injection pump can be made when you put that cam in. Ignition upgrades & exhaust upgrades would then make more of a difference, & if its a tii, it's already got a tii manifold (should have), so the exhaust is already pretty good for up to 150 HP. For ignition most people use pertronix, or Crane XR700 or XR3000, or MSD 6, or Crane HI-6, That's listed in order of less exp to more expensive. Since your in Norman, I can't tell you who is good BMW mech down there. Up here in OKC, it used to be Bruce Epperson, but unfortunately, he shut down his shop. Oh yea, I think you said 72, so you may have 121(ti) head. It may still have original small intake valves, you could have larger intake valves installed in that head along w/cam, & then get the injection adjusted to match. Also what was said about rear diff's applies, get a 3.90 LSD, revs will be maybe 500 rpm higher crusing on hiway, but quicker through the gears.

Thanks to the fellow Okie for a thorough and informative answer to my question.

I honestly have no plans to modify my tii. I've very in to keeping things stock. It's just that I love '02s, think about them more than I probably should and was just interested in a little conversation about performance ehancements to a tii. Because I know there are obviously limitations, such as the fi...so I was curious about tii specific stuff. I just like to talk about them....that's why I post here--and look forward to continuing to.
