Gas tank Question

Hi folks, just got a gas tank to put back in my '76 2002, my question is what do I use instead of the factory gasket that goes around the lip of the tank before it is placed into position in the trunk floor, it had the original deterioated gasket, and I heard not to use the factory gasket as it attrachs moisture. i have a roll of this closed cell foam used to seal camper tops to pick up beds. it doesnt hold moisture and im considering it. im open to better solutions however if someone has one

get some dumdum, black rubber tar stuff works in that aplication.

dumdum is " 3M Strip Caulk" - black, waterproof,

non water absorbing. It's a good thang.

i have a chunk of that stuff as big as a loaf of bread. i will use that

I just put my tank back in and I used 3M strip caulk, worked fine.

If your tank is apart and fume free, you may want to consider having a newer style of filler tube and cap welded on to the metal stub of your tank... I'm sure your paint would thank you. Unless of course you dont have the vapor recovery pump nozzles up there. If that's the case, I envy you.
