Signal and hazzard issue

I replaced all the bulbs and cleaned the contacts in for my turn signals and they were working just great for about a week; including the "B" light on the cluster. The car is a '74 2002.

Randomly one day my "B" light quit working. I checked the see if the signals were still functioning and they now just light up solid and do not flash anymore; front and rear. I tried the hazzards and I get all four to light up and stay solid. I've tried an extra turn signal stalk I have and the problem is still there. I can feel and hear the relay clicking once, but never repeating. I'm thinking the flasher relay is at fault, but a random failure just seems too odd. Any suggestions?

Thanks.

I've been in Springfield, MO the past few days. I made a trip up to Columbia Thursday night in the 2002 and came back Saturday. Didn't see you as I went through Jeff City either time. I drove the M3 the entire time I was up there since I haven't driven it in two months. It's a rocket!

I'll be back in Columiba for good in about a week or so. If your ever in the area I'm sure you'll probably see me since the '02 will be my daily driver. We'll have to meet up sometime since I pass through Jeff City a lot. It would be nice to check out a great looking '02. I love the Inka/black combo.

I've been trying to get all this electronic crap sorted out so I can pass inspection. I need signals, hazzards, and working wipers.

the light in the dash is often an indicator for other issues as well. if you have a bad bulb, the indicator will light up only once and not blink, although if a wrong wattage bulb is used the indicator will do the same, but the blinker outside will still blink. sometimes too high of a wattage can cause the relay to "stick" I've found. might have been wrong bulbs causing too much current through the relays coil magnet making it stick closed rather than ticking back. May not even need to replace it yet though... first locate it, in a 74 it should be under the dash near the hood release. if you do a search you should find plenty of info on opening up your relay, sometimes they just need to be cleaned, & sometimes a contact arm needs to be bent slightly to undo years of use. What I can tell you though is that the stalk is only of & on, it's the relay that makes it flash.

For the archives.

I took a $40 chance and bought a new turn signal relay. It came in today. The signals and hazzards are all working like brand new now. If you have the problem where the relay clicks but doesn't repeat and your lights stay lit solid, then the relay is probably your problem. If the relay doesn't click at all, check for power at the connector first.
