Anyone used chambered mufflers? feedback wanted

almost 2 years ago my muffler cracked off right at the seam to the pipe on the inlet side. Being a broke guy in a college town, I just threw on a 20$ cherry bomb. Actualy sounds pretty nice.... that is until I hit 2.5k, then it's just flat out LOUD, and gets a rather ricey rattle, neither of wich I like. but at Idle and under 2k rpm, it sounds great. nice deep well defined burble. A friend of mine offered me his unused "force flow chambered muffler". I'm thinking about using the cherry bomb instead of the old rusted (almost through I'm sure) center res.(or mabe just a straight pipe) and the chambered muffler in the back. anyone out there tried anything similar.. with or without the glasspack? I love the low end sound, but every time I rev out 1st or 2nd gear, I have people leaping for the sidewalks several blocks ahead, and my ears cant take much more either. If I had the money, I'd do it right. just trying to research some cheap alternatives. whispering bomb? this ones screaming...

Just my $.02

The material in the cheap cherry bomb mufflers will deteriorate over time and be loud. If you want a straight through muffler and retain some quietness, I would recommend a long perforated(not louvered) resonator followed by a quality straight through muffler that is able to retain it's packing material over a long period of time. Might want to check out Jegs and Summit Racing for some stuff.

If you're not pushing over 150hp, then a good quality chambered muffler will do just as well and even be quieter, especially in the upper revs. I was actually surprised on my last car where there was virtually no power difference using a good quality chambered muffler vs a straight thru muffler.
