Will a 76 Distributor #0231170164 work on an early 69 2002?

I'm trying to upgrade to pertronix electronic ignition and was looking for a 008 distributor for the upgrade and was shipped a 164 distributor instead. The distributor I have #0231170164 has a huge vaccum module and two vaccum valves. My original had a small vaccum advance module and one valve. I'm wondering if this distributor will work on my 69 2002 as I think it came off a 76 2002, which has a bunch of smog attachments and I think the distributor fiactored into the equation as well. I want to upgrade to the pertronic electronic ignition 1847v for the #0231170164 distributor on a stock 1969 bmw 2002 -but I want to do it right, and wondered what to do with the extra valve...& what the difference was.

Well, it worked. THe 76 distributor #0231170164 worked fine on the early 1969 BMW. I was able to static time it, using the two marks on the flywheel lined up w/ a sharp pointer on the front of the engine, and then got the distributor to line up by pointing the rotor towards the mark on the dist housing and then pressed it in. The rotor rotates 30 degrees to line up under the #1 plug, and w/ the pertronix installed fired right up. It's been a while since I parked it with ignition woes, and now it sounds like it's running good. I think the ponts and battery were bad, but decided to upgrade to the pertronix system when I had a hard time finding the right points for the early distributor w/ the post...Now if it would just stop raining and I'd button it up, and go for a cruise...I guess I'll have to wait until tomrrow to go for the test drive. The final install included the 76 distributor #0231170164 w/ the 1847v pertronix ignitor, and I replaced the stock coil / ballast resister setup with a bosh blue coil. We'll see how she sounds under load, higher RPM w/ the new ignition setup.
