Trunk latch

Jack

Recommended Posts

I've installed a new gasket on the trunk. The mechanism operates perfectly. Appears to line up properly. Has anyone had a problem with the gasket being to fat, as the door gaskets are? I'm actually looking to weld a bit of an extension onto the portion that attaches to the lid to get it to project down a bit further. What do you think? Anything I'm missing?

Hey Jack,

Pat's right, the latch on the lid is adjustable. If it still won't pull the lid down far enough, you may want to repace the catch completely, as it could be worn too thin. Had that happen once.

With the lid mounted portion shimmed out to center it, and adjusted down as far as possible, I can slam (not real hard) the lid and it will not hold. However, if I very gently push down it holds. Given that I am a sledgehammer mechanic it makes perfect sense that it got by me. Thanks for your help!
