Rotation is clockwise, so advance is counter.

most 02's rotate clockwise, unless it has a cam and dizzy out of something else . there should be an arrow on the side of the dizzy, indicating the rotation direction. turning with the arrow = retard, and against it = advance. if there's no arrow, it's likely from something else, if so you can find the direction for sure by taking off the distributor cap, and pushing the car forward, in a forward gear.. 4th being the easiest, and seing wich way the rotor moves. this would be the direction it turns with the motor running.
