Its been soaking in pentrating oil all day & it still won't give.

Is applying heat in this area a bad idea?

-Thanks!

The nut is 36mm, with a breaker bar and about 3 foot of water pipe to give you some leverage, that will get it moving. I've done it like that in a bone yard (but with a piece of exhaust for the pipe). Beaner7102

That or your gonna have to use the "blue wrench" and heat it up till it's bright red. By that point the bearing seals will be toast and you'll have to get a new nut since the temper will be gone.

But as he said, you don't need to take that nut off to get the drums off. You do need to take it off if your gonna put on new brake back plates, like if your trying to replace the adjusters because they are frozen and or rounded off.

with a rubber or brass mallet. A regular hammer might crack the drum casting. Also make sure the emergency brake has been released.

If a regular hammer cracks the drum casting, you need new drums. I've never had a problem. Obviously you don't want to really beat on it, a few light taps are usually enough.

I beat the hell out of my drums with Snap-ons big ol' 900gram dead blow hammer and have NEVER cracked a drum.
