bmw head rebuild cost?

Recommended Posts

hello, my name is chris from zygmunt motors. i have a question about cylinder head rebuild prices. i have a customer that dropped of 2 heads at my shop, one that had bent valve and another one that was cracked. out of the 2 head we we to assemble one good one. i sent the head to the machine shop and these were the fees.

valve job $175

resurface $60

install thread inserts (5) for the front cover $110 that includes the oversize inserts parts replacing the old inserts that were stripped.

removing parts from old head $25

so i got the head back and ziggy was assembly it and said that the rocker shafts were worn out that would be $33 each. i charged $50 for ziggy's time for reassembing. i told the customer $400 for the job before i new about the front cover insert problem and the rocker shafts being bad. his total will be $486 plus tax for the job. i also told him that the job would be done in 3 days, the oversize inserts took a couple of extra days to get, i will have the rocker shaft tomorrow. he i angry about the price and time it is taking. i wish i had more control over this but i do not know.

i am asking if the prices are fair and 9 working days is to long for this job?

thanks for reading,

since undisclosed problems were found (rocker shafts and helicoil the front upper timing cover).

From your email you have $411 in outside labor and parts and only charged $75 for all your labor and guarantee that the work was done properly.

FWIW, I hope your machist did replace the valve guides on the cylinder with the bent valve (ideally all the valve guides were replaced). I'd be worried that the bent valve also damaged that guide.

I've been trying to reach Customer Service at Zygmunt Motors with their posted email address chris@bimmerparts.com   all my emails are returned "undeliverable".   Tried the other address too:   cmuzyy@aol.com  with no reply.  Telephoned Doylestown but put on hold - ok the shop is busy.  Does anyone know the correct eMail address for Zybmunt Motors?   Thank You.
