I read somewhere that diesel cars won't be sold in the US by any manufacturer in 2007? CA already outlawed them a year or two ago so people have been bringing them in from Oregon. Damn shame because some of the new diesels are damn fast and VW's new diesel Jetta gets better MPG than a Prius.

The diesel revolution is here in Oz... we upgraded our diesel standards a few years backa nd right now 55% of all new Golfs are being sold as Diesels. It seems all car manufacturers are pushing something with a Tdi badge now!

With the resale of diesels being so strong, people are jumping on board left right and center. I want an X5 3.0d - they are horn!

Maybe I'm disturbed as well, but I was thinking of taking my rusty 72 cs and dropping in a 524td so that it'll sound the way it looks. A real daily driver. Wonder if it'd fit?

In many cases the new generation engines have lower fuel consumption and CO2 emmissions cf their petrol equivalent. Or so I thouht - is someone pulling the wool over my eyes? Peugot 307tdi rocks!

Tim, as far as I know, the diesel available in the US is less refined diesel that are very polutant like what we used to have. I cant think of the technical terminolgy, but this produces the black smoke that diesels have been known for in the past.

If they clean up the quality of diesel, these cars do produce better economy, less emissions like you said.

I dare say the oil industry in the US has something to do with it too - conspiracy theory :-P Like the death of the electric car...
