Wanted- Picks of 74-76 grills painted to look early

As some of you may have read in my previous posts, the PO of my car added a 74-76 front clip to try and get better air flow. I want to change it back, but it appears to be a huge project. It was suggested that I paint the late grill silver with the appropriate slats left black to give me an earlier look.

Does anyone have pics of anything like this?

i used, including the ones i wasted ( i probably wasted more than i actually used getting the hang of things) approx 4 sheets...i'm doing a pair now, using the rolled metal foil tape...it's a lot easier and you can do one slat with a single strip...the rolled metal foil tape isn't as fragile, much easier to work with & it's a lot easier to find...home depot sells it....

if i'm able to find time before my minds wanders to something else, i'll try to finish one and post a pic of it as well

How do you deal with wrinkles in the tape? That tape is so sticky, I can't imagine it going on without wrinkles. Very tedious looking work. Nice job!

Also, how do you clean the grills of years of armor-all from previous owners?

I've always wanted to try making the late grills look like the '73 grills.

it is extremely hard to lay down without wrinkling...i started it and tried to keep it off the piece as i laid it in place by keeping a piece of wax'd paper in front of it as i burnished it with the backside of a spoon as i went along...

it takes a lot of patience and practice but once you get a routine down, it'll speed up...

i find, for me, the best cleaner is wesley's bleach white (found any place, wal-mart, autozone, etc that sells auto cleaners)...i place things in a container...i use one of the larger plastic storage type boxes, then spray them down. allow them to sit a few minutes, then rinse well and wipe down with automotive wax remover...the stuff used as the last step to clean a car before painting

BTW, the light surround, the round part is a B**** to do...you have to do some creative splicing with a lot of small pieces in a few spots and those are where you'll waste the most material

here's one i started but forgot i have...it's painted...

i started by cleaning it as mention'd above, then scuffing it with one of those BBQ cleaner, scrubby things...wiped with wax and grease remover then painted...

i started by priming then painting the entire gill with the paint pictured...

i prefer dark gray instead of black....i used silver metallic model paint, the stuff in the tiny bottles with a flat tip'd brush
