Capitalism is good. I believe in it. He does have a right to market the product any way he wants it. The item we are talking about is in in the 10 dollar range.I assume it's not his bread and butter. What's wrong in making it available for all of us? Instead of sniping it on e-bay. Push come to shove e-bay I go. What a shame.

If everything seems under control, you're just not going fast enough.

If David wants to quit making them altogether(and I suspect he might after this thread), thats HIS BUSINESS, not yours! David used to sell them off Ebay for something like $2 per fastener, but now he doesn't. So what? Tire manufacturers used to make good 13" tires as well, but life goes on.

Perhaps the problem with making them available to everyone who asks, is that he doesn't have the time to make so many sets? Each one is hand made, and takes time. Strangely enough, I think he might actually have a LIFE, outside of making trim clips for Esty. Shocking as that may be.

Get over it, Esty. Move onto your next target.

I might be able to offer some helpful information here.

David is a good friend of mine, so take this for what it's worth. As Bill says, David is a devoted family man and has full-time job; he simply happens to be an ace machinist, and makes some parts on the side that he thinks would be useful to folks. Also, as most know, he's an Isetta nut, and has been extremely busy with a secret project, for which (1) I am sworn to secrecy, and (2) he is trying like a madman to complete in time for next year's V@V. That has left him less time for other things, and as he says, unfortunately his "factory" consists only of his own "two hands."

I really don't think there's anything more to it, than that. The guy really is a salt-of-the-earth type guy, IMHO. To use an old cliche, if you needed a shirt, off his back, his would come. Those that may question him, needed only to witness Rimspoke and Ken Winters giving Isetta ride after ride to the kids (little and big alike) at V@V. But enough said in his defense, I suppose (and hope). With that, I'm otherwise ducking out of the line of scud-missile fire -- since my significant other, Otis, is a happy little car, and wishes that all 02ers "just get along" -- isn't that what it's all about, anyway?

As always, happy motoring, per Otis.

I'm still sticking with my original theory when fued #1 started...

For those old timers who can remember that theory, I'm sure you'll have a good laugh.

For the rest of you, tough titties... Bigdog cares about Bigdog!

craftsman & a good guy. I agree that what he does with his stuff is his business & that a lot of us have benefited from his expertise. I could go on with this but Otis put it well.

The problem with being talented, is that everyone wants and needs a bit of your time.

It'd be great to help everyone out, as you feel obligated to do so... But soon enough its taking all your time, and there's not much free time to really enjoy life.

For example, I'm good at fixing cars cheap, and I'm the only one that can do it in a pretty big circle of friends that are grad students. And of course, grad students buy cheap cars and most don't know how to fix them.

Sure, its great when I can help someone save several hundred dollars on a timing belt job or something. But I'm also a very talented neurophysiologist, and my time can be better spent doing neuro research.

So, I hate to see my friends get ripped off by mechanics, but I have to pass on a lot of jobs. I don't tell too many people that I can fix cars. Still though, somehow I end up fixing other people's cars most every weekend.

If someone got pissed off because I refused to do a job for them, then I wouldn't consider them much of a friend. Instead, others should be thankful that I'd ever done things at a fraction of the cost before, with no real profit. I could've chosen to sit on my lazy ass, or way overcharge them.

Wow, he does have the right idea with the ebay thing.

If he just allowed people to order them as they pleased, then he'd end up with a huge backorder and people waiting, and getting pissed off for waiting. Thats just gonna make stress, quality of everything goes down, prices go up, etc.

He could pick and choose to make them for whomever he wants, but thats gonna make a lot of people mad.

With the ebay thing, he can make as many as he feels like making, with no backorders. He doesn't have to pick a price, as people can pay as much as they're worth to them, and receive them quickly. Good plan.

By the way, I have no idea what these fasteners look like or why I might want them.....
