Hello. My engine runs well but at 5200RPM it doesn't want to go any further. It feels and sounds like it is not getting enough spark. I do not know much on the topic of ignition but it sounds like this is the trouble. Is there any easy solution to getting enough spark so I can go beyond 5200RPM? Also, what might be the red-line of this engine? I know that it is a rebuild from germany.

Good day.

Oh and I forgot to mention, I am currently running points.

Sounds like more than a hesitation. Further, it sounds like a timing problem (excessively retarded), although are many other possible causes. Have you timed your car recently?

I had the same deal with my car when I first bought it... just wouldn't pull past about 5500 RPM. I found the dizzy in a sorry state- replaced all the innards. Timed the motor by ear. That helped, but then the kicker was that I discovered the throttle wasn't opening all the way. Basically, the car was revving to the extent it could with the throttle at about 75%.

After I took care of the above, the car would pull to redline. I must say, though, that after I installed an MSD 6 and Pertronix setup, the top end was noticeably stronger and the motor will now eagerly pull past redline.

I beleive what is happening is "points jump". I am currently running the blue coil with points and mechanical distributor #0231188002. I will be trying the pertronix unit #1847V to cure my high rev hesitation and very poor cold and warm starts.

My 2002 is just back from a fresh build.  91mm Ross pistons, 292 cam, new Weber 40 DCOE’s.  About 500 miles on the motor.  Just started hesitating badly under hard acceleration starting at 2000 rpm. Idles fine, tried Techron to maybe clean out some loose junk that may have lodged somewhere, but so far, no luck. Sounds like it’s running on 2 cylinders.  Any suggestions?
