I just started the rebuild of my '72 Tii today. I got everything thats attached to the body from the motor removed. Monday i'll be hoisting out the engine and tranny.

Performance Mods i've considered:

cam 284 grind

billet alternator pulley

billet crank pulley

aluminum flywheel(?) will there be rough idle?

setrab oil cooler

crane XR700 electronic distribution

10mm plug wires

blue coil

Supersprint headers

Billet Rockers

pistons (need help on which ones i should get)

billet connecting rods

question: what compression ratio do you think is appropriate?

thanks a lot!!

O K sense no one else has jumped in here I will, If it's a street driver.....

Fuel quality being what it is today and probably getting worse. I don't think I'd go over 9:1.

This will be an interesting thread, hopeing to do my 74's motor this winter.

Don't use the Blue coil on a tii....go only "Red" (actually they are silver new now).

but as stated, use the red coil with the red coil ballast resistor and use one of the Crane electronic ignition systems.

Your stock K pump will deliver enough fuel for a 284 cam and maybe enough for a 294.

The other thing I would strongly recommend is a wide band 02 sensor at the end of the down pipe with some type of guage to monitor the CO of the motor. Once you start messing with it, this is the best piece of mind and tuning tool you can get.

If your machinist is good, JE pison blanks are very good machined to the CR you want.

I too agree that anything greater than 9.3:1 is a risk with today's gas and even a greater risk in the future. The fellow that built my motor refused to build it at anything more than 9.3:1 because of the gas mystery. I really respect him for his candor and honesty.

Lighten the flywheel too much and you will experience a rough spin down and difficulty in transition idle. Better said - poor street drivability.

Also look at the magnacore website for wire info. The have great info. I run a .05" gap on 7mm copper wires and no resistor at the coil (waste spark) No problems.

I'm surprised you said that. so there is abosolutely no advantage to billet rockers?
