The old was caked with grease and gunk

The new (used) is very clean and seems to be fine-a little tight when 1st bringing up from fully down

DO I WD-40 / Lubricate or just leave it be

I know WD-40 can be a HUGE problem with dust

wheel bearing grease. After that I'd go for white lithium grease. If you have the vapor barrier and weather strip trim thingy that squeegies the window, it should stay pretty clean.
