These Kenwood radios are somewhat retro style with the big knobs and they are a lot cheaper than the Becker radio. I do like the Becker unit, but not at 1500 Euro's, I bought my tii for much cheaper than that ($750 at an estate sale).

I had sketched out a plan similar to this a while back. Basically, I would use the innards of a cd deck and wire the volume to the vintage radio potentiometers. Not as sweet as this set up, but you would have a stock looking radio with cd/ipod functionality. I also thought it would be sweet to have a hidden lcd carputer screen behind the single speaker of the original radios so taht if you hit a switch (maybe the mysterious green button?) the "speaker" facade would flip up to reveal a screen....

but I have much more essentials to purchase before worrying about audio systems.

That isn't just a radio dont forget! It has Navigation - US$400 for a decent one. iPod connectivity - US$150 for a Denison Icelink. Phone adaptor - $150. Decent head unit - US$300...

The cost of things start to add up if you were trying to replicate a similar set up... A CD player is useless if you have an iPod with integration anyway.

I am not going to say I am going to run out and buy one, but it looks sweet as. Hoepfully some other companies will have the idea to produce a more cost friendly CD player or similar... maybe Becker offer a CD player that looks similar... worth a look ;-)
