I have an original Euro headlight bucket with Euro H4's.I want to try to replace a cracked lens.Has anyone had any success at removing the black trim ring that holds the lens on.There are no screws.I have heard it is glued on.I tried a heat gun with no success.I would like to keep these lights as they came original on myFactory Turbo and they have the city light option.I know I can get regular buckets and use the newer H4's but I prefer to keep these,if possible. If anybody has one of these EURO buckets with an H4 that is good laying around please EMail me @mpgandco@sbcglobal.net

THANKS

slot the crimped over part with a dremel tool and bend the crimp back a little at a time...it'll take awhile but you'll be able to get it apart. where are you gonna find a replacement lens?

It is crimped on,but you can't mess with it too much as is is very visable.I heated and pryed on it and it didn't move at allThe trim rings are NLA.As far as the lens goes I got a part # off of Real OEM and called my parts guy.Believe it or not he said there was only one still available and I ordered it.We will see,if it comes up NLA.At that point,I might have to consider US buckets

Here are some pics of some Euro bucket that were refinished. I was able to carefully spread the rim away from the lens at the split. Then gradually spread the rim for about 3" in each direction, at that point the lens came out. I believe there is a rubber gasket in there too.

The only ring I have on mine is the ring incorporated into the grill

Bill

Was the trim ring still usable when you got ready to put it back together?Do you have a spare lense?

THANKS

Your misfortune has caused me to think about putting that clear protectant over mine.

If we are talking about the same trim ring, I was able to put the lense, gasket back in and I used a small ball pein hammer to tap the ring back tight against the lens.

Call Max at 800.950.2002 a call, he is amazing sometimes at what he can pull out of BMW in Germany or even Bosch

BIll I would do that for sure.I wish I had.The black trim ring is what holds the lens in.I am sure this is what you removed. Thanks for your input

If a rock is going fast enough to crack the glass, the clear protectant will only hold the smashed glass together. I have seen it happen.

I had a smash like that that was conveniently covered when I got insurance to repair my car from the accident :-)

I did not remove any ring.

On the unit I have, the lens is crimped, like Mike advised.

I just prised the crimped piece back from the lens and the lens comes out.

Look closely at the pictures above and you can see the area I prised to free the lens and gasket

Well for the most part rocks will bounce instead of taking out the glass. Its FAR better to have this stuff. I use the 3m version on my '97 M3 euro glass lenses (and factory fogs too) and they are as clear as the first day I installed them, even through many winters.
