My trans seems to stick in 1st, 2nd, and reverse. When I say stick I mean that I have movement in that gear even with the clutch pushed in and it is hard to engage/disengage when in those gears. What is a solution other than getting a new transmission? Thanks.

You probably have a problem in the hydraulic clutch. Sounds like a bad clutch master cylinder. The fluid leaking past the piston seal keeps the clutch from disengaging all the way. Could be a bad slave cylinder also but a bad slave usually leaks all over the garage floor.

supports the shift lever/linkage) is (1) tastened tightly to the tranny (two allen bolts that are a real PITA to reach) and that the Metalastic blocks the bolts go thru aren't all gummy/worn out. Either will cause hard shifting...

And BTW, your clutch slave/M-C could be passing fluid internally without leaking, and thus not function properly...

IT'S A CLUTCH FAULT:

the hydraulics are not pushing the friction and pressure plate far

enough to release - bad clutch master & slave or just needs pressure flushing/bleeding, or the ruber hose is rotten and not permitting good flow or pressure in the circuit

or,

the friction disk is stuck to the splined shaft causing the drag when

dis-engaged - years of dirt and rust on ths splines.

Anyway you look at it - the trans needs removal to replace the clutch pressure plate, friction disk, throw-out bearing, clean and lubricate the shaft splines

and while your there , change the trans oil and rebuild the shifter platform.
